(VIDEO) Lil Nas X Doesn’t Care About Alienating Straight Fans, Covers ‘EW’

Wednesday, Entertainment Weekly released the covers of their now-annual Pride Issue. This year, the publication chose four names to front its magazine: Mj Rodriguez, Lena Waithe, Bowen Yang, and Lil Nas X. All were shot by photographer Texas Isaiah Horatio-Valenzuela, who became the first trans photographer to photograph a cover of any Vogue edition in 2020. But in his cover story, Nas X discussed the recent change in his output. Anyone who has been paying attention has seen a shift in what the Georgia-based musician has been doing. While his first hit “Old Town Road” was admittedly about “lean and adultery,” he didn’t mind targeting it towards children putting out inoffensive imagery alongside it. But since, he’s definitively gotten into more adult fare, namely with his “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” visuals. Nas X said on the cover “At first I was really afraid of alienating any of my straight fans. But then it was kind of like, if they feel offended, they were never really here for me. They were here for whatever version of myself they made up in their head.”

(VIDEO) Caitlyn Jenner on Hannity touts Trump: ‘He was a disruptor’

California gubernatorial candidate Caitlyn Jenner praised former President Trump on Wednesday, saying she liked him because he was a “disruptor.” Appearing on Fox News’s “Hannity,” host Sean Hannity asked Jenner for her assessment of Trump as well as President Biden and Vice President Harris. The Olympic gold medal winner, a lifelong Republican, had endorsed Trump, a fellow reality TV star, in the 2016 presidential campaign but seemingly broke with him after he enacted a ban against transgendered people in the military. Jenner has been widely quoted this week saying that girls sports needed to be protected and just the ammunition that evangelicals and radical republicans needed to attack the LGBTQ+ community.

(VIDEO) Des Moines’ flag gets a makeover ahead of Pride month

This may come as a surprise to LGBTQ+ America, but the largest state in red-state Iowa has modified their city flag just in time for Pride month. Des Moines’ iconic red, white and blue flag got a makeover. Flag of Des Moines, which spearheaded a grassroots campaign that successfully brought back the city’s flag in 2019, teamed up with local organizations to create the flag. They partnered with Capital City Pride, One Iowa and Black Liberation Movement on the project. In the original flag, the blue represents the Raccoon and Des Moines Rivers; white represents the Walnut, Grand and Locust Bridges and the red represents Des Moines’ “passionate” residents. The Pride version incorporates 11 colors to represent LGBTQ folks. 15% of each purchase will be split between the three organizations.

(VIDEO) ACT UP is giving away joints to anyone that shows their vaccination card

ACT UP New York has come up with a novel incentive to get fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. They’ll pay you to show them your filled-out vaccination card. And in return, they’ll give you a free joint. That’s right. A joint for a jab. So far the group has done two pop up events. Act Ups Brandon Cuicchi said  “Joints For Jabs 1 was so successful that we want to continue the program through the summer to encourage vaccination among medicinal and recreational marijuana users and young people. Now that vaccine demand is slowing, it’s clear that vaccines will need to go where people already congregate such as parks and public spaces in order to reach them.” The group reports that they gave away approximately 300 joints. They say they hope to offer walk-up vaccines on-demand at their next popup event.

(VIDEO) Ryan Reynolds ‘very much wants’ Marvel to let Deadpool be bisexual in future films

Ryan Reynolds is apparently urging Marvel to let Deadpool be openly bisexual in future films. The character is pansexual in Marvel’s comics, but aside from a few jokes here and there, Deadpool, also known as Wade Wilson, has been depicted as heterosexual in his feature film outings. According to reports from prominent tipster Daniel Richtman, Reynolds “very much wants” his superhero character to explore his sexuality in the upcoming third film. He also said Reynolds asked Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige to make Deadpool openly bi. This new report adds to what Reynolds has already previously spoken about Deadpool’s sexuality. At San Diego Comic Con Q&A in 2018 he answered a question about it by saying “I certainly think that this universe needs to represent in very real ways.” and about a pansexual or bisexual nature he said “It’s something that I’d love to see more of, certainly through Wade, certainly through this universe because it’s something that we’re building out more. I think his sexuality can be explored in many ways.” Deadpool 2 broke ground by portraying a lesbian superhero couple between mutants Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Yukio.

This Texas Teen Just Became One of BSA’s First-Ever Trans Eagle Scouts

At Queer News Tonight, If We Do A Story About The Boy Scouts Of America, The News About Them Has Generally Been Bad. That Is Why This Story Caught LGBTQ America’s Attention. The News? Texas teenager Jace King is the first openly transgender teen in their hometown to become an Eagle Scout, as well as one of the first in the entire country. The 17-year-old high school student joined a BSA troop in near their town of Splendora, Texas in 2019, after the group formerly known as the Boy Scouts of America began allowing youth of all genders to join. In 2017, the nation’s largest youth organization announced that trans boys would be permitted to participate in BSA for the first time in its history. Later the same year, it announced that girls were allowed in the club, which formally changed its name to the gender-neutral BSA in 2019. The inclusion of trans scouts made possible King’s lifelong dream, which was to become an Eagle Scout like their older brother. But they had to work fast to achieve it before turning 18, sacrificing weekends in order to qualify for the award as quickly as possible. King’s efforts paid off, as they reportedly earned the rank of Eagle Scout in record time. King said “It usually takes four to six years. I did it in 25 months.”
