Equality Florida’s Business outreach Manager, Rene Cantu reminds all of us at Queer News Tonight that political activism is not just in the ask, but also in the thank you. When it comes to protecting Florida’s transgender youth, the Miami Heat isn’t sitting on the sidelines.

Earlier this week, the team spoke out against the Trans Sports Ban advancing through the Florida Legislature: Their statement says “The Miami HEAT champions diversity and inclusion both on and off the court. We believe sports are at their best when they bring people together to work, to play, and to create a sense of belonging for all. Every young person deserves the opportunity to participate in athletics and experience the critical life lessons that sports offer such as wellness, dedication, problem-solving, and leadership. Sports should be welcoming for all.” This is a BIG deal: The Miami Heat is one of the largest sports organizations in the nation to publicly stand against these cruel bans for transgender youth in sports. Now that’s a WIN on and off the court! So Equality Florida reminds us to simply say “thank you.”  And we could not agree more.  As so many states and the farthest right of the Republican infrastructure is using Trans as the wedge issue for 2022… The Miami Heat reminds us of the good stewards business and professional sports teams can be.  And The Miami Heat symbolize that leadership.  Send them a message of thanks by going to eqfl.org and send a message of support and thank you.  For everyone in the LGBTQ community it is a perfect opportunity for activism, but in a completely different way.
