A new Netflix documentary executive produced by Ryan Murphy and Jason Blum will chronicle conversion therapy’s deadly history in the United States. Pray Away, which premieres on August 3, is directed by Kristine Stolakis and tells the story of Exodus International, an infamous ex-gay organization that was founded in 1976 and shut down in 2013 when its then-president, Alan Chambers, apologized for the “pain and hurt” conversion therapy had caused. In an official description of the film, Netflix rightly describes Exodus as the “largest and most controversial conversion therapy organization in the world.”
