(Watch Live) New York had a horrific start to the COVID-19 crisis back in March, but now as other states, including Texas and Florida, descend into chaos it is New York that looks like a model to follow with zero recorded deaths for a single day for the first time over the weekend. With Florida Governor Ron DeSantis seemingly refusing to part ways with Trump's line while Governor Andrew Cuomo did so early, this situation has every indication that New York made the right decision while the Government of Florida may very well still pay the costs of this decision over the summer and into the fall.
(Watch Live) In a surprising turn of events, the latest polls show Biden taking a 5-point lead in Texas. Trump has been relying on the status quo, as Texas is a reliably red state that has not gone for a democrat since Jimmy Carter in 1976. Analysts suspect that the change is primarily due to independent voters and senior citizens leaning away from the incumbent in favor of any--yes, ANY--other candidate. While winning Texas might still be a stretch for former Vice president Joe Biden, it’s indicative of a shift that may help him in other states come November. These same poll results are happening in other major COVID-19 states including Florida, Georgia, and Arizona.

Some players express that the fanbase is so sheltered from diversity that being gay might have significant negative impacts on a Premier League player’s career. Over the weekend, the Justin Fashanu Foundation released an anonymous letter that spotlights the problem. An unnamed Premier League player expressed reluctance to come out, stating ‘I am gay. Even writing that down in this letter is a big step for me.’ The fear of a firestorm prevents gay Premier League players from living their lives authentically which ultimately takes a toll on their mental health. As the player wrote: ‘I feel trapped and my fear is disclosing the truth about what I am will only make things worse.’

(Watch Live) While there seems to be a matchmaking app for everyone, LGBTQ Christians struggled to find a community to serve all parts of their identity. The developers of Believr looked to solve this problem by creating a place for queer people of faith to find dates, friends, and support resources. The app, which is in the final stages of development, stalled due to COVID-19, but the development team is still working hard to reach the September launch. In the meantime, they’re prioritizing development on a paid version called Spectrum. Funds from the purchase of Spectrum will support both the Believr team and organizations in the broader non-profit community such as the Marsha P Johnson Foundation.
