(Watch Live) Celebrities, politicians and activists on Saturday united with Global Pride 2020, a 24-hour virtual event created in light of widespread cancellations of Pride events and festivals due to the coronavirus pandemic. The event celebrated LGBTQ progress thus far and drew attention to the violence and oppression that Black LGBTQ and transgender individuals endure around the world. Global Pride organizers also collaborated with the founders of Black Lives Matter to amplify Black LGBTQ voices. More than just that though it was a beautiful reminder of how much our community owes to the black members of it, and the transgender members of it. It was a celebration in the middle of the pandemic that was as singular as it was beautiful. We here at Queer News Tonight hope it doesn't take a pandemic to bring so many people together in appreciation of our struggles for Stonewall next year.

(Watch Live) (David) Over the weekend my friend Delicia Glam captured video of the Star Spangled Banner like we had never heard it before in the Lower East End of Manhattan, and since by week's end we will be celebrating the birth of our nation, it is for sure good news!

(Watch Live) In a move that seems impossible to fathom even a decade ago, especially with the politics surrounding LGBTQ people of the state and its general history, Mississippi lawmakers voted Sunday to remove the Confederate battle emblem from the state flag, a symbol that has flown for more than 120 years. The state House and Senate approved a suspension of the rules Saturday, allowing for debate and a vote on the bill. It passed the House on Sunday by a vote of 91-23, quickly followed by a 37-14 Senate vote. Speaking before the vote, Democratic state Sen. Derrick Simmons urged his colleagues to vote for the 'Mississippi of tomorrow.'

(Watch Live) The Lincoln Project, run by moderate Republicans who view Donald Trump as a threat to their party and their country, have continued to pound on issue after issue over the past several weeks. This is just the latest attack, and potentially one of the most damaging as many in his own base value nothing more than supporting our armed forces, with many of them serving in the Military themselves. So far the White House has given no clear indication that they have a suitable response for the attacks levied in the video.

(Watch Live) Beyonce joined the ranks of activists like Muhammad Ali and Harry Belafonte on Sunday when the 2020 BET Awards honored her with the BET Humanitarian Award during its socially distanced broadcast. The Grammy-winning singer's BeyGood Foundation works toward a variety of causes, from awarding scholarships to providing free COVID-19 tests to getting clean water to the landlocked country of Burundi in Africa.

(Watch Live) As advertisers pull away from Facebook  to protest the social networking giant’s hands-off approach to misinformation and hate speech, the company is instituting a number of stronger policies to woo them back. For many it may be too little, too late however as the boycott is picking up steam with more than thirty companies just today announcing that they are pulling their advertising from the platform led by home goods giant Unilever, which is known for such brands at Hellmann's, Lipton, and Ben & Jerry's as well as AXE and the Dove line of personal care products.

(Watch Live)The European Council on Foreign Relations announced this morning that a recent poll shows that most Europeans do not trust the US to act as a world leader. The coronavirus crisis has caused a dramatic deterioration in the European public perception of the US, extensive new polling reveals. More than 60% of respondents in Germany, France, Spain, Denmark and Portugal said they had lost trust in the United States as a global leader. A report based on the survey’s findings argues that the shock of the pandemic has 'traumatized' European citizens, leaving them feeling 'alone and vulnerable'. The real world effects of this could be disastrous for the economy. Every year Americans put nearly one trillion dollars into Europe's economy, but with the EU facing the real possibility that allowing people from the US into their countries isn't viable for the foreseeable future we are entering a new landscape that has never been thought possible - the US being left behind.

(Watch Live) Rowling posted a thread on Twitter on Sunday, June 28, addressing accusations by MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle that she had 'used' her experience of domestic abuse to attack trans people. King retweeted the quote, to which Rowling responded that her love for the 'The Shining' author had reached 'new heights.' A fan asked King to clarify his thoughts on transgender rights, which he did in short order by simply saying 'Trans women are women.' Mysteriously, after King tweeted this out Rowling's tweet praising him vanished, as if by some magical spell from her book series.

(Watch Live) The U.S. House of Representatives on Friday approved a bill that would designate the Pulse nightclub as a national memorial. A press release that U.S. Reps. Darren Soto, Val Demings, and Stephanie Murphy released notes House Resolution 3094 'grants a federal designation honoring the 49 lives taken on June 12, 2016, as well as the survivors, first responders and the entire Central Florida community.' Soto, Demings and Murphy are Democrats who represent Orlando in Congress. A lot of us here in Florida were personally affected by this tragedy and it is good to see that our community's hour of grief is not being forgotten by those who represent us in Washington.

(Watch Live) A man who tore down a Pride flag in his city has said he did it because it was 'mocking God' - and he believes his actions are protected under the First Amendment. Charges have been brought against Barrigar over the incident, which he recorded and shared on YouTube. Meanwhile, city officials have come up with the best possible rebuke to Barrigar’s actions - they will instead keep the flag up for even longer. Officials have taken measures to secure the flag to the pole and have decided to keep it up for the rest of the month. It was originally due to fly in the city for just one weekend.

(Watch Live) In case there was any doubt that the pop culture icons of our time stand against Trump, we here at Queer News Tonight are just going to go ahead and name some of the artists who have firmly, officially, and sometimes with lawyers said enough is enough. The list of artists include Queen, which ought to stop the late great Freddie Mercury from rolling over in his grave, Adele, Prince, Elton John, and the Village People. Perhaps best of all was when Brandon Urie, lead singer of Panic! At the Disco, found Trump was playing their song he had a simple message for the campaign. 'Fuck you.'

(Watch Live) President Trump on Wednesday met with the anti-LGBTQ president of Poland at the White House. Two senior administration officials who briefed reporters on Tuesday said NATO and economic ties between Poland and the U.S. were among the topics that Trump and Andrzej Duda planned to discuss. Duda is the first head of state the White House has hosted since the coronavirus pandemic began. Trump on Wednesday described Duda as a 'friend' before they met in the Oval Office.Under Duda's leadership Polish LGBTQ rights have been under constant attack, leading to condemnation of him from many organizations.

(Watch Live) Across Florida, hundreds of doctors are adding their signatures to a letter over the decision to hold the Republican National Convention in Jacksonville. The letter is addressed to the city’s mayor, Lenny Curry, and the city council, noting the recent surge in cases. It calls the move to hold the event, 'medically disrespectful to the citizens” of Jacksonville. 'The group asked for the RNC to be postponed or significantly reduced in size, based on the recommendations set forth by the CDC and Florida Surgeon General when it comes to social distancing and crowds. The letter points out that more than 40,000 people are expected to attend from around the U.S.
