Vaccines and masks: Biden plan aims to break pandemic cycle

A coronavirus action plan being unveiled by President-elect Joe Biden centers on a mass vaccination campaign and closer coordination among all levels of government.
The Biden plan comes as a divided nation remains caught in the grip of the pandemic’s most dangerous wave yet. So far, more than 380,000 Americans have died.
Biden hopes his multidimensional strategy, expected to be detailed in a speech tonight, will put the country on the path to recovery by the end of his first 100 days. Biden said after getting his second vaccine shot “It’s going to be hard. It’s not going to be easy. But we can get it done.” A more disciplined focus on vaccination is the new and widely anticipated game-changing element, but that’s far from the whole story. Biden is asking Americans to override their sense of pandemic fatigue and recommit to wearing masks, practicing social distancing, and avoiding indoor gatherings, particularly larger ones. That’s still the surest way to brake the COVID-19 wave, with more than 4,400 deaths reported just on Tuesday. Biden has also talked about asking Congress to pump more money to states, to help their efforts to contain the pandemic and replenish depleted coffers that pay for basic services. And Democratic lawmakers are eager to push for $2,000 economic stimulus payments to Americans. According to Dr. Leana Wen, Public Health expert and emergency physician Biden’s biggest challenge is to (quote) “win the hearts and minds of the American people to follow his lead.”Next Wednesday, when Biden will be sworn in as president, marks the one-year anniversary of the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the United States.

At this rate, January will be the deadliest month of Covid-19 in the US

It took about 90 days for the United States to reach its first 2 million cases of coronavirus last year. But it took just 10 days to hit 2.2 million cases in 2021, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. And new infections, hospitalizations and deaths keep soaring. Dr. Ashish Jha, dean of the Brown University school of Public Health said “We’re in a dire situation. We know how to slow the spread of the virus. We need mask mandates. We need people to really stay at home and avoid any indoor gatherings.” But officials say many Americans did the opposite over the holidays, gathering with friends or extended family. Now the consequences are becoming more evident in packed hospitals across the country. More than 27,000 new Covid-19 deaths have been reported in just the first 10 days of 2021. At this rate, more people could die from Covid-19 in January than any other month of this pandemic. December had a record high of 77,431 deaths due to Covid-19. Today, Queer News Tonight Anchor Aaron Darr posted an emotional 20 minute video on the overnight news of his entire family being infected with Covid-19 and the death of a family member, the closest person in his life. He passionately called for an end to the mis-information, denials, politics over mask wearing and the general state that America is in over this pandemic. In other Covid-19 news, more than 22 million vaccines have now been shipped but as of today only 6.5 million have been administered.

Could 252 LGBTQ Americans Have Died Yesterday Of Covid-19 And Why Are We Not Talking About It?

The U.S. on Wednesday reported the highest number of new cases of the coronavirus and the most COVID-19 deaths since the pandemic began.
As of 1:30 a.m. Thursday, more than 3,600 Americans died Wednesday from complications of the coronavirus, according to Johns Hopkins University, which is tracking coronavirus infection data.
Data from the COVID Tracking Project revealed more than 230,000 new coronavirus infections and showed 113,090 Americans were hospitalized with the virus — a number that’s been on the rise since Dec. 6. America seems to be have a wave ontop of a wave. This data based on standard acceptance of the American LGBTQ population percentage means likely more than 252 LGBTQ Americans died yesterday of Covid-19. Queer News Tonight has repeatedly reported that the Queer community has been more adversely afftected by Coronavirus because of the effects on industry’s of entertainment, service (including restaurants and bars), travel and more. Cases, hospitalizations, and especially deaths are likely a greater percentage of simple population. There seems to be little study or analysis of the statistical affects of Covid-19 on the LGBTQ community. But at Queer News Tonight we draw attention to yesterdays record day of the harm of this pandemic. And very likely more than 252 of our Queer Brothers, Sisters, And Non Binary family were lost yesterday. As 2020 comes to a close, we remember.

One hundred 9-11 Events In 2020, Is It To Much For LGBTQ Americans To Mourn At That Level?

Today the news on Covid-19 continues to be grim.  We have had the 7th consecutive day of the highest ICU hospitalizations in 2020.  Today we also cross the milestone of 300,000 americans lost to coronavirus.  At queer news tonight we have reported on covid-19 every single news broadcast in 2020.  We have report the failures of President Trump and the White House Coronavirus Commission.  We have reported medical recommendations, hand santizer, masks and social distancing.  We have reported on rumors and debunked inaccuracies… including “miracles” and clorox. But today we focus on 300,000 Americans dead.  America came to a stop for a month with 9/11 and 2900 tragic deaths.  Today, in just 9 months, we have had more than 100 9/11’s in terms of loss.  A 9/11 every three days.  So why has it not impacted our thoughts, our souls in the same way?  What is different this time for the LGBTQ community.  Our next conversations with vaccine distribution of how many are still going to die… some estimates another 300,000 deaths… and what’s next will be facing the grief we have not yet faced in our LGBTQ community.
