(Watch) President Trump and Attorney General Bill Barr announced on Wednesday that the Justice Department will "immediately surge" federal law enforcement officers to Chicago and Albuquerque in an effort to combat violent crime. This move comes when on the same day such officers used tear gas on the mayor of Portland, Oregon during a protest. In 1968 Nixon used similar tactics, claiming to be about law and order. He went so far as to interrupt the democratic national convention in 1968 and successfully provoked riots, using that narrative to capture the Presidency that year. Trump isn't as subtle as Nixon was, what with him tweeting 'Law and Order' dozens of times a day, but his aim is clear: he will do anything, hurt anyone, to retain his power.
